My employer is based in Canada i cant file because the java script wants a vaule tht i can't provide because it won't allow for letters

If you're talking about a control number, it's sometimes used by companies internally. 

If you get errors when attempting to e-file with an empty Box D on your W-2, just enter any number in this format: 5 digits, space, 5 digits (for example, 12345 67890).  

On the other hand, if you're trying to import your W-2 with a blank Box D, click skip import and then manually enter your W-2. You won't be able to import using the 5 digit + space + 5 digit solution for e-filing. 

Does your Canadian employer have a Canadian postal code? That's a 6 character code like "2A4 7S1" instead of the 5 or 9 digit US zip code.

Some users have difficulty entering the Canadian postal code on the W-2 because the sequence of events makes TurboTax believe that the entry should be a US zip code.

If you have a Canadian postal code and you are trying to enter the W-2, then try the following:

1.      Delete the W-2

2.      When you add a new W-2, the screen will ask you for the employer’s EIN. DON’T PUT ANYTHING HERE.

3.      Instead, just leave the EIN field blank and continue.

4.      Enter your complete W-2 information on the next page. Make sure to indicate that this is a foreign address (under “Address Type”). It’s OK to enter the EIN here at the top of the page.

5.      Be sure you enter everything from the W-2 – the input screen is rather long and needs scrolling.
