We don't want to claim the Additional Child Tax Credit this year.

My ex-wife and I have an agreement to take turns claiming our daughter on our taxes. This year, is not my turn, so I clicked the box "We don't want to claim the Additional Child Tax Credit this year."
When I press Continue, I get the following message

Good news!
You qualify for the
Child Tax Credit
Your tax return already includes this $2,000 credit.

Then when I review my credits, it's giving me the $2000 credit.

Is this option broken or something? I can't seem to opt out of claiming my daughter this year.

We don't want to claim the Additional Child Tax Credit this year.

Return to the section "You & Your Family" (or "My Info") and the Dependents section.

Choose edit beside your daughter's name and walk back through the questions.

When you get to the question "Do You Have a Custody Agreement?" be sure to say Yes and then on the follow up question select "Yes, [daughter]'s other parent will claim her this year per our legal agreement".

Continue through the remaining questions and the child tax credit should be removed but her information will be retained for next year.

Remove your daughter from your return.  She should only be on the return of the parent who is claiming her this year.

Take the child's information off your return.

Update the dependent information under you and your family. Answer the questions and you will find a screen to indicate you will not be claiming the dependent for child tax credit.
