Thanks for joining us today TracieDoug2023!  The deductions you qualify depend on your very unique tax situation. Here are some of the 10 most popular tax deductions available:

  • Standard deduction
  • IRA contributions deduction
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) deduction
  • State and local taxes deduction
  • Medical expenses deduction
  • Home office deduction
  • Student loan interest deduction
  • Mortgage interest deduction
  • Charitable contributions tax deduction
  • Educators expense deduction

In this article you can find more information about each deduction and how to qualify for them: https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/tax-deductions-and-credits/10-popular-tax-deductions/L9JesBWTQ

Worked pipeline last year is it possible to put the rent I paid at the RV park as a deduction as well as groceries and eat out seeing that I'm away from my primary residence?  There was a time, these expenses could be claimed as deductions, but somewhere along the line, they were taken no longer authorized, just asking as I get my taxes prepared.

I don't think those have ever been a legitimate deduction.  Not  even if you are filing as 1099NEC contractor income on Schedule C.    For W2 income the employee job expense deductions have been eliminated for 2018-2025.

Do you get a W-2, or a 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC.

  • If the job was for W-2 income, then the expenses are no longer deductible.
  • If you receive a 1099 you will file a schedule C (self employment tax form) that represents a business.
    • You may then deduct some of those expenses.
    • However, if you are self employed you will have to pay self employment tax
    • The self-employment tax rate is 15.3%. That rate is the sum of 12.4% for Social Security and 2.9% for Medicare.
