College student

My son will be 18 next year and will go to college. He will live on campus but I will pay for all his fees and tuition. Can I still claim him as dependent?

College student

Thanks for joining us today MarwanM. Yes, you can still claim your 18 year old son as your dependent for next year when he goes to college. He can still be your dependent until the age of 24 as long as he is a full-time student for at least 6 months of the calendar year.  Since you will pay for his education expenses (Tuition and fees) you might be eligible to claim certain education tax credits which can help reduce your tax liability or increase your refund as long as you meet the eligibility requirements for those credits.

You can refer to this article for more details about the available education credits: https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-credits-deductions/education-tax-cre...
