Yes, you can leave box 9a of Form 1099-R blank, but you can't enter 0. To go back and clear your entry in this box:
- Sign in to your TurboTax account.
- Select Wages & Income.
- Select Start or Revisit to the right of IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), under Retirement Plans and Social Security,
- On the screen, Here's your 1099-R info, select Edit to the right of the 1099-R.
- On the screen, Enter your 1099-R details from (name) enter your information as it is on the form, but leave box 9a blank.
- Select Continue.
- Answer the next few screens according to your situation.
