Recovery Rebate Question

I was a college student claimed on my parents 2019 return, they filed in Feb 2020 before COVID.  After the first stimulus money,  they considered refiling , but there was no additional benefit at the time.

I have income for 2020 so if I file on my own,

it asks me if I got the stimulus and I say no, and it wants to give me both round 1 and  2, $1800.  It doesn't have any options to choose round 1 or round 2.   My question is ,  am I now entitled to the extra $1200 because I am filing for  2020 or is this a huge error on turbotaxes part?  If so where do I report it...

Recovery Rebate Question

No, this is not a huge error. If you are no longer a dependent in 2020 after having been a dependent in 2019, then the Recovery Rebate Credit is for you.

To get to the section to report 0 in each stimulus payment box, go to the search and enter stimulus. Click the Jump to link.

To verify your eligibility, see: How do I claim the Recovery Rebate Credit?

To determine if you are considered a dependent in the eyes of the IRS, see: Who can I claim as my dependent?
